Overview

Enhancing Science and Innovation Capacity of Vietnam for Sustainable Development project is part of the Newton Fund Professional Development and Engagement programme (PDE), provided by the UK Government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and delivered by the British Council. The fund builds research and innovation partnerships with partner countries to support their economic development and social welfare, and to develop their research and innovation capacity for long-term sustainable growth

The project aims at developing progression skills in the Vietnamese science and innovation sectors, supporting the professional development for researchers from government organisations and research institutions. Under this project, British Council in Vietnam in close collaboration with Vietnam Institute for Science Technology and Innovation, Ministry of Science and Technology organised series of training workshops providing research supplement skills for Vietnamese researchers, using the Coventry University, UK's expertise with reference of the UK Research Development Framework.

Pilot training

As the result of training need assessment, training programme with selected topics for researcher development was designed. Pilot training was organised for a small group of researchers.

Training workshop on supplementary skills for researchers

This training course was the result of undertaking

  • a needs assessment
  • desk-based research and
  • delivery and evaluation of a three-day pilot training course.

The trainings were delivered in Hanoi, Danang and Ho Chi Minh City.

Training of trainer of supplementary research skills

15 researchers/scientists were selected to receive further training to become trainers for the course. The training aimed at providing TOT trainees with

  • Understanding the context in the UK
  • the skills to become an ‘excellent trainer’ through learning the skills of training programme design
  • knowledge and understanding of training delivery and evaluation tools
  • a thorough understanding of the subjects covered in the training
  • an opportunity to practice the delivery of training.
