Preparation for Life is a feature segment under the New Lifestyle feature produced by the News Department, Viet Nam Television, which provides young people with study and career orientation, inspires them to think about and take actions supporting their personal and community development.

Through the programme, we aim to:

  • Showcase those young people who represent a new way of living; who are interested and committed to contributing to society in many fields, including arts, education, and innovation; and who are responding to climate change and other critical social issues in Viet Nam.
  • Call for youth participation in joining hands with local communities to tackle climate and environmental challenges proactively.
  • Promote our involvement, through the UK's expertise in building skills for young people to contribute to tackling social issues in Viet Nam.
  • Create opportunities for collaboration between UK and Vietnamese youth organisations, Higher Education Institutions, and other relevant entities.

The twenty episodes of this series focus on Vietnamese youth with modern lifestyles – interested and committed to contributing their values in many fields, including arts, education, and innovations that solve climate, environmental, and social challenges in Viet Nam.  As of October 2025, the series attracted 5,248,000 viewership, highlighting youth-led efforts in addressing climate change, environmental, and social issues, inspiring young people to think critically and contribute positively to their communities.

‘I have noticed that everyone, regardless of nationality or location, shares a longer-term and more sustainable vision when implementing projects or initiating climate action. The focus has shifted from short-term endeavours that only last for one to two years to those with lasting impacts, ensuring positive outcomes for generations to come.’– Nguyen Tran Mai Chi, Master’s student in Communication Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

‘Youth are the core force, the future of society. They help address current and future societal issues. At present, rather than talking about the limitations of youth, I believe we should focus on providing them with a favourable environment and motivation to develop their capacities. Of course, this must be within an organised, supportive framework, aligned with mutual societal and national efforts.’ – Assoc Prof Dr Van Pham Dang Tri, Director, Research Institute for Climate Change, Can Tho University

Many young people may assume that policymaking is the business of the government and adults, and that their voices won’t be heard. But from my experience in research and policy consultation, I have seen that policymakers are very keen to listen to young people, as well as other societal groups and stakeholders, tonsure that policies are practical and feasible.’ – Dr Nguyen Hoang Nam, Youth Advisor
