Interview Women in STEM scholars

Nguyen Thi Thu Hang was awarded the British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM 2023–24. She is currently undertaking a Fellowship in Telecommunications Engineering at Middlesex University. Why did you choose to pursue your studies in a STEM subject in the UK? I chose to study in the UK because, before attending this programme, I had received guidance from a professor I knew in my field. In addition, the UK is a very technically developed country, so I wanted to study in a professional, modern environment.

Nguyen Huong Duong was awarded the British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM 2023–24. She is currently undertaking a Fellowship in Digital Twin and Machine Learning at Middlesex University. Why did you choose to pursue your studies in a STEM subject in the UK?

I believe that women in STEM can make a positive difference in the world.

Le Thu Thao was awarded the British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM 2023–24. She is currently studying for an MSc Data Science at Middlesex University. Why did you choose to pursue your studies in a STEM subject in the UK? I was a Data Analyst working with geolocation data (latitude and longitude) for a startup in Ho Chi Minh City. Our company collects locations from users (with approval) to ensure they are where they should be.

Nguyen Thanh Huyen was awarded the British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM 2023–24. She is currently studying for an MSc Applied Statistics in Health Sciences at University of Strathclyde. Why did you choose to pursue your studies in a STEM subject in the UK?

I can see that there are increasing opportunities for girls and women to pursue becoming scientists.

Sometimes to achieve success, we need to gain enough experience and have immense faith in ourselves. Keep dreaming, but also open the door for yourself.

Spending the time to carefully go through the university, programme, and scholarship eligibility criteria would be very helpful to best prepare for your application.

I realised that STEM is not as complicated as it may seem. I saw how it was integrated into our daily lives and how it could be used to tackle problems in many different areas.

British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM reminds me of the importance of personal growth when selecting STEM and pushes me to pursue my passion for STEM.

This scholarship really sparked my desire to delve deeper into my scientific professions, as well as many other female friends, a profession that people often think is only suitable for men.

Don't hesitate to knock on any door that may open for them because it may lead to a valuable turning point in their life. Be confident and never give up.

As long as you can prove that you are the right person that the scholarship programme is looking for, you are halfway to winning the scholarship.

I am confident to say that your experience in UK, a beautiful country in terms of learning environment, people and culture will make you more mature and open-minded.
