The British Council has launched the seventh year of a prestigious award celebrating the outstanding achievements of the UK’s international alumni around the world. 

The Study UK Alumni Awards are open to alumni living anywhere outside of the UK. Award winners and finalists are leaders in their fields who have used their experience of studying at a UK university to make a positive contribution to their communities, industries and countries. The Study UK Alumni Awards celebrate and showcase the impact and value of a UK higher education and raise the international profile of UK alumni and their former universities

The awards are open to alumni currently residing in any country outside the UK, who have either studied in the UK, at an officially recognised provider of UK university degree level study for a minimum of a term or semester or who have been awarded a full UK degree level qualification (or higher), by a UK university through a local institution overseas, within the last 15 years. 

Alumni Awards categories

Professional Achievement Award

Recognising UK alumni who have distinguished themselves through exemplary leadership and achievements in their professional industry, and who can demonstrate the impact and scale of their achievements in their profession, and beyond. 

Entrepreneurial Award

Recognising UK alumni who are active in initiating or contributing to innovative or creative new ideas, solutions or business opportunities, that have the potential for strong growth.

Social Impact Award

Recognising UK alumni who have made an exceptional contribution and commitment to creating positive social change and improving the lives of others.

March to August 2020 Global Alumni Awards finalists (2019–20) announced and celebrated via social media
September 2020 Global Alumni Awards 2019–20 winners announced
2 September 2020 Applications open for all countries 
30 October 2020 Applications close at 16.00 (GMT) for all countries
October and November 2020 Shortlisting of applications
December 2020/January 2021  Announcement of finalists in national-level awards (in selected countries – see the full list in terms and conditions)     
January to March 2021 National Alumni Award ceremonies (in selected countries – see the full list in terms and conditions)
March to August 2021 Global Alumni Awards finalists announced and celebrated via social media
September 2021 Global Alumni Awards winners announced

Applications open on 2 September 2020 and close on 30 October 2020. All eligible applicants will be put forward for the global Alumni Awards.

The finalists and winners of the global Alumni Awards will be announced in 2021 and celebrated in a digital campaign that will raise the profile of their story and success. Award winners have the opportunity to raise their international profile, expand their professional networks, and to enhance their careers, through a professional networking visit to the UK (subject to global Covid-19 situation).
