When will I get my IELTS test results?

You won’t have to wait long for your British Council IELTS test results. IELTS results remain online on your Test Taker Portal for 2 years and include details of your IELTS band scores –  but do not constitute an official record of your performance in the IELTS exam. You can get your Test Report Form (TRF) in one of the following ways:

1. IELTS test results available online

Candidates can check their British Council IELTS results online 13 days after their written test date for IELTS on paper and from 3 – 5 after taking IELTS on computer.

Due to information management policies, IELTS results cannot be disclosed over the phone or via email. Results are only available via the IELTS test taker portal and your official Test Report Form (TRF) will also be sent to you via local post per your request.

2. IELTS Test Result Form (TRF) pickup at the British Council

You can come to collect your Test Report Form directly from the Customer Service Desk at a British Council office in Vietnam. To get your Test Report Form please ensure you bring the original ID which was used for your IELTS test registration (ID or Passport).

  • Hanoi: 20 Thuy Khue street, Tay Ho district
  • HCMC: first floor, Viettel Complex Building, 285 Cach Mang Thang Tam street, ward 12, district 10.

3. We can post your IELTS results to you – or you can authorise someone to collect them for you

If you cannot come to collect your IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) we can send out a paper Test Report Form (TRF), via mail delivery – provided you have given your postal address to the British Council.

If you want your IELTS results posted, please fill in this link  for IELTS test takers in Hanoi and this link  for test takers in HCMC.

Or you can authorise someone else to collect your TRF for you.

If you need to authorise someone to collect your TRF, please fill in the IELTS Authorisation Form in the download section. Please ensure you use the same signature on the authorisation form as on all other IELTS candidate documentation.

Scan or take a photo or your completed TRF authorisation form and email to exams.hanoi@britishcouncil.org.vn (Hanoi candidates) or exams.hcmc@britishcouncil.org.vn (Ho Chi Minh City candidates). We will respond as soon as we receive your request. To collect a candidate’s TRF, the authorised person must show their ID card or Passport. The identification presented must match the identification information on the TRF authorization form.

If you lose your Test Report Form or forget your test results, please contact your test centre.

4. We can send your Test Report Form (TRF) directly to the institutions you’re applying to

We can send your Test Report Form (TRF) directly to the institutions that you’re applying to ( for instance universities, immigration officers etc) within two years of your test date. Please refer to TRF Distribution policy for more information.

Please note:

  • STED Recognising Organisations (accept electronic IELTS TRFs): please provide their exact name and address including postal code in your application. We will process your TRFs and send them electronically.
  • Non-STED Recognising Organisations: we will send your paper TRFs to them by post.

Institutions need original copies of your Test Report Form. Photocopies will not be accepted.

Please do not forget to provide us with the full postal address of the institution. Without the complete address we are not able to check whether the institution has access to the IELTS Test Report Form Verification Service that allows it to view your results after we have submitted them electronically. Where an institution does not have access this service, we will send your TRF by post.

Can I get additional copies of my IELTS results?

IELTS test takers can request the IELTS test centre to send electronic results or send additional copies to a recognising organisation in addition to the original TRF within 2 years from your test date. The service is free of administration fee but you need to pay the airmail postage cost or international courier fee for each additional copy for distribution

You need to provide the institution’s address and fill in the “Application for Additional Test Report Form”. Please use this form  for Hanoi and this form  for HCMC, attach your proof of payment and email the documentation to exams.hanoi@britishcouncil.org.vn (Hanoi) or exams.hcmc@britishcouncil.org.vn (HCMC).

We will then send the TRF directly to the institution.

Please note an additional Test Report Form request takes around 5 days to be processed.

Please refer to IELTS TRF Distribution Policy for more information.

If your test centre has been closed, you can order additional test report forms from ielts.org.

What does my IELTS score mean?

You will be awarded an IELTS band score from 0-9 for each section of the test. Band scores reflect your proficiency in English.

In addition to showing a score for each of the four skills (IELTS Listening, IELTS Reading, IELTS Writing and IELTS Speaking), your TRF also shows an overall IELTS band score.

You can score whole band scores (for example 5.0, 6.0, 7.0) or half band scores (e.g. 5.5, 6.5, 7.5) in each section of the test as well as overall

Find out more about what your IELTS score means here.

How long are my IELTS results valid for?

Organisations will not usually accept your results if they are more than two years old, unless you provide evidence that you have actively maintained or tried to improve your English since taking the test. The IELTS Partners cannot confirm the validity of test results that are more than two years old.

How can I get my IELTS test re-marked?

If you did not receive the score you expected, you can apply for your test to be re-marked. This is called an Enquiry on Results (EOR). You can choose which test sections you want to be re-marked.
