When will I get my IELTS results?

You won’t have to wait long for your IELTS test results. IELTS results remain online for 28 days but do not constitute an official record of your performance in the IELTS exam. You can get your Test Report Form (TRF) in one of the following ways:

1. Results available online

Candidates can check their results online 13 days after their written test date for IELTS on paper and from three to five days after taking IELTS on computer. 

Due to information management policies, IELTS results cannot be disclosed over the phone or via email. Results are only available via the IELTS test taker portal and your official Test Report Form (TRF) will be also be sent to you via local post.

2. TRF pickup at British Council

You can come to collect your TRF directly from the Customer Service Desk at a British Council office. Please ensure you bring the original ID which was used for registration (ID or Passport) to get your Test Report Form.

3. TRF posting and Authorisation

If you cannot come to collect your Test Report Form (TRF) in person, you can either request British Council send your TRF to your home address or authorise someone else to collect it.

If you need British Council to send TRF to your home address, please fill in this link for test taker in Hanoi and this link for test taker in HCMC. 

If you need to authorise someone to collect your TRF, please fill in the IELTS Authorisation Form in the download section. Please ensure you use the same signature on the authorisation form as on all other IELTS candidate documentation. 

Scan or take a photo or your completed TRF authorisation form and send it back to us via exams.hanoi@britishcouncil.org.vn (Hanoi candidates) or exams.hcmc@britishcouncil.org.vn (Ho Chi Minh City candidates). We will respond as soon as we receiving your request. In order to collect a candidate’s TRF, the authorised person must show their ID card or Passport. The identification presented must match the identification information on the TRF authorization form.

If you lose your Test Report Form or forget your test results, please contact your test centre.

We’ll send your Test Report Form (TRF) directly to the Recognising Organisations that you’re applying to within two years of your test date. Please refer to TRF Distribution policy for more information.

Please note:

  • for STED Recognising Organisations (where accept electronic TRFs): please provide exact name and address including postal code in your application. We will process your TRFs to send them electronically.
  • for Non-STED Recognising Organisations: we will send your paper TRFs to them by post.

Institutions need original copies of your Test Report Form. Photocopies will not be accepted.

Please do not forget to provide us with the full postal address of the institution. Without the complete address we are not able to check whether the institution has access to the IELTS Test Report Form Verification Service that allows it to view your results after we have submitted them electronically. Where an institution does not have access this service, we will send your TRF by post.

Can I get additional copies of my IELTS results?

Test taker can request centre to send electronic results or send additional copies to a recognising organisation in addition to the original TRF within 2 years from your test date. The service is free of administration fee but you will need to pay postage cost or courier fee for each additional copy for distribution via airmail or international courier.

You need to provide the institution’s address and fill in the “Application for Additional Test Report Form”, please use this form for Hanoi and this form for HCMC, attach a proof of payment and send these documentations to us at exams.hanoi@britishcouncil.org.vn (Hanoi) or exams.hcmc@britishcouncil.org.vn (HCMC). 

We will then send the TRF directly to the institution.

Please note that an additional Test Report Form request takes around 5 days to be processed.

What does my IELTS score mean?

You will be awarded an IELTS band score from 0-9 for each section of the test. Band scores reflect your proficiency in English.

In addition to showing a score for each of the four skills (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking), your TRF also shows an overall band score. 

You can score whole band scores (for example 5.0, 6.0, 7.0) or half band scores (e.g. 5.5, 6.5, 7.5) in each section of the test as well as overall

How long are my IELTS results valid for?

Organisations will not usually accept your results if they are more than two years old, unless you provide evidence that you have actively maintained or tried to improve your English since taking the test. The IELTS Partners cannot confirm the validity of test results that are more than two years old.

How can I get my IELTS test re-marked?

If you did not receive the score you expected, you can apply for your test to be re-marked. This is called an Enquiry on Results (EOR). You can choose which test sections you want to be re-marked. 

You can submit an Enquiry on Results online request for a regular IELTS test from the Test Taker Portal (not applicable for IELTS UKVI and Life Skills).

EOR fees (no matter whether it is a full or a partial re-mark). 

  • EOR fee or regular IELTS test: 2.160.000 VND
  • EOR fee for IELTS UKVI test: 2.850.000 VND
  • EOR fee for IELTS Life Skills: 2.135.000 VND

Pay at a British Council office

You can pay by credit card or cash at British Council offices in both cities

Pay via bank transfer

In the Instruction <Payment reference > <phone number> for bank transfer description, please use exactly:

  • Payment reference: You can find the Reference Number (example: VN0022200XXX) in the confirmation email or test taker portal.
  • Your phone number: (example: 84-09XXXXXXXX).

The EOR fee will be refunded if your score is increased for any section of the test. You need to return your old Test Report Form to be re-issued the updated version. 

You need to apply for a re-marking no later than six weeks after the test date, regardless of whether you have taken IELTS on Paper or IELTS on Computer.

Your result will normally be available in 2 to 21 days, depending on several factors including the number of sections requested for remark. If you have not received a response after 21 days, please contact your test centre.

Can I re-take my IELTS test?

There are no restrictions on re-taking IELTS. You can book a test as soon as you feel you are ready to do so.

Please note that your score is unlikely to increase unless you make a significant effort to improve your English before re-taking the test. Visit the preparation section to take a practice test and assess your level.
