When will I get my IELTS results?
You won’t have to wait long for your IELTS test results. IELTS results remain online for 28 days but do not constitute an official record of your performance in the IELTS exam. You can get your Test Report Form (TRF) in one of the following ways:
1. Results available online
Candidates can check their results online 13 days after their written test date for paper–based IELTS tests and from three to five days after their computer-based IELTS test date.
Due to information management policies, IELTS results cannot be disclosed over the phone or via email. Results are only available via the IELTS test taker portal and your official Test Report Form (TRF) will be also be sent to you via local post.
2. TRF pickup at British Council
You can come to collect your TRF directly from the Customer Service Desk at a British Council office.
- Hanoi: 20 Thuy Khue street, Tay Ho district
- HCMC: first floor, Viettel Complex Building, 285 Cach Mang Thang Tam street, ward 12, district 10.
Customer services opening hours
- Hanoi: 8:30–18:30 (Monday–Friday); 8.30–12.00 and 13.30–16.30 (Saturday)
- HCMC: 8:30–19:00 (Monday–Friday); 8.30–16.30 (Saturday)
3. TRF posting and Authorisation
If you cannot come to collect your Test Report Form (TRF) in person, you can either request British Council send your TRF to your home address or authorise someone else to collect it by completing the TRF collection authorisation form. Please ensure you use the same signature on the authorisation form as on all other IELTS candidate documentation.
Scan or take a photo or your completed TRF authorization form and send it back to us via Exams.Hanoi@britishcouncil.org.vn (Hanoi candidates) or Exams.HCMC@britishcouncil.org.vn (Ho Chi Minh City candidates). We will respond as soon as we receiving your request. In order to collect a candidate’s TRF, the authorised person must show their ID card or Passport. The identification presented must match the identification information on the TRF authorization form.
If you lose your Test Report Form or forget your test results, please contact your test centre.
We’ll send your Test Report Form (TRF) directly to the institutions you’re applying to
Institutions need original copies of your Test Report Form. Photocopies will not be accepted.
We can send up to five additional copies of your TRF directly to institutions you are applying to (for instance universities, immigration officers, etc.) within one month of the Test Report issue date. If you would like us to do this, please include the relevant addresses when you book your test.
Please do not forget to provide us with the full postal address of the institution. Without the complete address we are not able to check whether the institution has access to the IELTS Test Report Form Verification Service that allows it to view your results after we have submitted them electronically. Where an institution does not have access this service, we will send your TRF by post.
Can I get additional copies of my IELTS results?
If you want us to send a further copy of your TRF to a recognising organisation in addition to the five copies we provide free of charge, you will need to pay an administration fee for each additional copy for distribution via airmail or international courier.
If your test centre has been closed, you can order additional test report forms from ielts.org.
You need to provide the institution’s address and fill in the “Application for Additional Test Report Form”. Attach a photocopy of your IELTS test result and ID card / passport to the application form and send this documentation to us at firstname.lastname@example.org (Hanoi) or email@example.com (HCMC). We will then send the TRF directly to the institution.
Please note that an additional Test Report Form request takes around 10 days to be processed.
What does my IELTS score mean?
You will be awarded an IELTS band score from 0-9 for each section of the test. Band scores reflect your proficiency in English.
In addition to showing a score for each of the four skills (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking), your TRF also shows an overall band score.
You can score whole band scores (for example 5.0, 6.0, 7.0) or half band scores (e.g. 5.5, 6.5, 7.5) in each section of the test as well as overall
How long are my IELTS results valid for?
Organisations will not usually accept your results if they are more than two years old, unless you provide evidence that you have actively maintained or tried to improve your English since taking the test. The IELTS Partners cannot confirm the validity of test results that are more than two years old.
How can I get my IELTS test re-marked?
If you did not receive the score you expected, you can apply for your test to be re-marked. This is called an Enquiry on Results (EOR). You can choose which test sections you want to be re-marked and will need to request this at the test centre where you sat the test.
EOR fees (no matter whether it is a full or a partial re-mark)
- EOR fee or regular IELTS test: VND 2,200,000
- EOR fee for IELTS UKVI test: VND 2,900,000
- EOR fee for IELTS Life Skills: VND 2,175,000
The EOR fee will be refunded if your score is increased for any section of the test.
You need to apply for a re-marking no later than six weeks after the test date.
Download the Enquiry on Results Form from the download section below, print out, sign and submit your form to the test centre where you sat the test. Please make sure you attach proof of payment.
You will be required to return your previously issued Test Report Form if your result is changed before a new one can be issued. You should make all enquiries regarding the progress of your re-mark to your original test centre.
Enquiries on Results take two to 21 days to complete.
Can I re-take my IELTS test?
There are no restrictions on re-taking IELTS. You can book a test as soon as you feel you are ready to do so.
Please note that your score is unlikely to increase unless you make a significant effort to improve your English before re-taking the test. Visit the preparation section to take a practice test and assess your level.
