You are invited to a talk with British Council film advisor Gary Thomas on experimental filmmaking and animation in the UK. Among the talk's topics, Gary will introduce Animate Projects (http://www.animateprojects.org/) – a commissioning agency producing content for use online, in cinema, broadcasting and fin galleries. 

Gary will profile Apichatpong Weerasethakul's ‘A Letter to Uncle Boonmee' – a film Animate Projects commissioned – alongside other examples of artists working internationally and in collaboration.  He will also discuss the history and context of experimental filmmaking in the UK.

Gary Thomas was previously the Head of Moving Image for Arts Council England, leading on policy and strategy development for arts distribution, broadcasting and visual arts. 

He founded Animate Projects to run Channel 4 and Arts Council England’s ‘Animate TV’ scheme and then developed it to become a commissioning agency. ‘A Letter to Uncle Boonmee’ won the Oberhausen Grand Prix and formed part of the development of the Cannes Palme d’Or winning feature project ‘Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives’.
