The fifth European Language Day will take place at Goethe-Institut Hanoi on Saturday 28 November.
Organised by EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture) members that include the British Council, Goethe-Institut, the Embassy of Poland, the Embassy of Spain/Aula Cervantes, French Embassy/Institut Francais - L‘Espace, the Embassy of Italy/Unitalia and Wallonia-Brussels Delegation, the 5th European Language Day will celebrate the diversity of the national languages of these European countries and promote multilingualism.
8.30 – 12.45 | Conference “Language Learning in Vietnam - Options and Perspectives from the European View“
The morning part will be a fantastic opportunity for around 100 linguists, experts on teaching, lecturers and teachers to listen to keynotes on Neurolingual Patterns of Language Learning to be delivered by Dr (Mrs.) Annegret Schmidjell, a Goethe-Institut senior expert on teacher training from Munich and Eric-Normand Thibeault, Director of the Organization International de la Francophonie, on the topic of Multilingualism in a Modern World. This will then be followed by a session where representatives from EUNIC member organizations reflect on experiences, chances and challenges of language teaching in Vietnam. Registration for the language conference on the morning is required to be made before Wednesday, 24 November. Registration can be made via email to Ms Do Thuy at ThiThuy.Do@Hanoi.goethe.org or by telephone (0)4 3734 2251/2/3.
14.00 – 19.00 | Festival of Languages
The second half of the Day of European Languages from 14.00 onwards will be for public audiences who are interested in languages and culture. Model classes will be offered to enable participants to learn English, French, German, Italian, Polish and Spanish languages and cultures in sessions which will last 30 minutes each. Slides of the diverse European culture will also be featured in selected short films to be shown on this occasion. Main prizes of the tombola are scholarships for an English, French or German course.
The 5th European Language Day will offer a rare opportunity for both linguists and general audiences in Vietnam to submerge in a multi-lingual environment for one day. No registration is required for the Language Festival. Entrance to all events is free.
