On 5 December 2025, over 500 delegates including MoET and DoET policy makers, researchers, practitioners, teachers and teacher educators from cities and provinces across Viet Nam, as well as representatives from nearly 20 international development organisations participated in the annual conference organised by the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences (VNIES) on the topic of Education in the era of national advancement.
The conference, supported by UNICEF and British Council, looked at three key aspects of education innovation and development, including innovation in education management and curriculum, and international integration. Two experts from UNICEF delivered presentations focusing on integrating AI in educational governance and the ‘climate smart school’ model. British Council’s experts presented the regional trends in English medium education (EME), research underpinning British Council’s global Continuing Professional Development (CPD) framework for teachers, and how the Teacher Activity Group (TAG) model can support Vietnamese teachers facing multilingual teaching challenges.
Mr. James Shiption, Country Director of British Council in Viet Nam, in his opening remarks commented: ‘We are delighted to co-organise the Conference with VNIES, to which we bring our international insight and experience in teaching and learning English – both in the region and around the world. Based on this experience, we are strong advocates for the importance of enhancing teacher quality, which we believe will be a critical factor in helping Viet Nam to achieve sustainable benefits from the national English as a second language (ESL) strategy’.
With experts and researchers offering 15 presentations covering a range of perspectives on education innovations deemed necessary for the new era, the 2025 VNIES Annual Conference has signaled to relevant stakeholders the importance of collaboration in implementing a successful, sustainable education development strategy for Viet Nam.
