British private schools undoubtedly enjoy a reputation for high standards. Expert teaching, leading to excellent results, is combined with a stimulating extra-curricular programme, and the individual attention and pastoral care are second to none.
There is also an enormous range of choice, with traditional boarding schools, often set in the English countryside, competing with private sixth form colleges in London. Ashbourne College, based in Kensington in the heart of the capital, is one of the most successful of these institutions. It recruits equal numbers of British and overseas students, many of whom stay in student residences close to the College, and includes a small but significant number of Vietnamese. Ashbourne is selective, requiring that all its students should have good English and a serious attitude to education.
Ashbourne is rated as ‘Outstanding ‘ by OFSTED, the government agency that inspects British schools, and enjoys excellent exam results. In Summer 2015, our A Level grades were 47 per cent A*A; 74 per cent A*AB and 91 per cent A*ABC. Our students progress to top British universities, with our most popular destinations including the London School of Economics, Imperial College London, University College London, King’s College London and the Universities of Edinburgh and Manchester. And each year, a couple gains entry to Oxbridge. Many of these students take degrees in Medicine, Engineering, Mathematics, the Sciences, Business and Finance, as well as creative subjects such as Art and Fashion.
