The British Council has officially launched the Study UK Alumni Awards, which celebrate the outstanding achievements and positive contributions of UK alumni in Viet Nam and around the world.

Held annually on a global scale, the Awards recognise the impact and accomplishments of UK alumni who apply the knowledge, skills, and experiences gained from a UK education to create positive change for their communities, industries and countries. Beyond honouring the contributions of UK alumni, the Study UK Alumni Awards celebrate and showcase the impact and value of a UK higher education and raise the international profile of UK alumni and their former universities.

This year’s four award categories are:

  • Science and Sustainability: recognising outstanding individuals in the fields of climate action, clean energy, medicine, sustainable cities and communities, engineering, industry and construction.
  • Culture, Creativity and Sport: recognising outstanding figures in the fields of arts, design, humanities, traditional media, music, video, TV, sports and online content and audiovisual media creation.
  • Social Action: recognising UK alumni who have made meaningful contributions in education, peace and justice and reducing inequality, poverty and hunger and broader humanitarian work or work for social good.
  • Business and Innovation: recognising entrepreneurs, business leaders, and innovators whose initiatives create economic and social value.

Application period: From 1 September 2025 to 16 October 2025. Apply HERE.

Global Awards

The list of global winners will be announced in 2026 and celebrated through an international digital media campaign, helping expand their global connections and support their professional growth. Winners of the global awards will be honoured through a worldwide media campaign and invited to the UK to reconnect with their universities, meet and inspire GREAT scholars, and engage with fellow global alumni winners. This trip will not only provide opportunities to enhance their international profile and advance their careers, but also foster meaningful connections within the academic community.

National Awards in Viet Nam

In addition to the Global Awards, the British Council in Viet Nam will also host a national-level award ceremony. The list of finalists and national winners will be announced between December 2025 and March 2026. National finalists and winners of the Study UK Alumni Awards in Viet Nam will be promoted in a month-long promotion campaign to raise their profile on British Council Viet Nam communication channels and external media channels – bringing new connections and business opportunities. In addition, award winners in Viet Nam will receive a grant of up to 30,000,000 VND to pay towards a professional development programme.

In 2024, from more than 100 applications with inspiring stories and meaningful contributions to society, the British Council and the judging panel in Viet Nam selected 12 finalists and four winners across the four categories: Science and Sustainability; Culture and Creativity; Business and Innovation; Social Action.

The four winners truly demonstrated the profound impact of a UK education. Trieu Thi Thanh Truc (University of Manchester) transformed her personal journey into social motivation, raising awareness about breast cancer through community projects. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Kim Phung (University of Sheffield) applied scientific knowledge to pioneer research in renewable energy and environmental protection. Architect Nguyen Phuc Minh (University of Bath) combined mindfulness philosophy with modern architecture, contributing to sustainable and creative projects. Nguyen Thi Hai Thanh (University of Huddersfield) established herself as a young leader in blockchain and fintech, driving international technology collaborations.

These achievements vividly showcase the enduring value of a UK education - not only opening doors to international career opportunities but also nurturing aspirations to create positive and sustainable impact for society.

The year marks the twelfth year that the British Council has celebrated the outstanding achievements of UK alumni worldwide, and the fifth year that the Awards have been held at a national level in Viet Nam.
