Role overview
A senior teacher is needed in Hanoi to develop our newest teaching centre branch. As senior teacher you will develop and manage the centre as a member of the Hanoi Teaching Centres management team (Senior Teachers, Managers, Customer Service and Administrative and Marketing Managers). You will manage a team of teachers and administration staff in a predominantly Young Learner centre. Teachers will deliver up to 24 contact hours a week to a range of young learner classes. All staff will be expected to work on both Saturday and Sundays as part of the job as is the norm in Hanoi. Demand for young learner courses in Hanoi is very high and the new branch is being opened to meet this need.
The position requires someone who is good at multitasking and enjoys a range of different challenges from ensuring quality of delivery, AQP objectives and young learner deliverables are achieved and effectively managing a large team of young learner teachers to liaising with our partner, ensuring that classrooms and facilities are maintained to the highest standard. QitC is of prime importance for the success of the centre and the post holder would need to ensure this is a priority.
British Council Hanoi delivers English to adults and young learners from multiple locations across Hanoi. We operate seven days a week, and currently accommodate approximately 2000 young learners per term and have about 40 teachers currently on staff. The Branch Manager would work closely with the Head of Young Learners to ensure the planned objectives and deliverables of the TC are achieved. The centre runs regular teacher training sessions and there is a strong culture of professional development amongst our teaching team. The TYLEC course is run in house for all TC teachers and funding and support is available for four teachers per year to take the DELTA.
Hanoi is a wonderful city full of the old and new world intoxications of East Asia. It is a city of lakes and contrasts - tree lined roads with colonial villas and moped filled streets with modern glass skyscrapers towering above the craziness in the new parts of city. It is a city of fast paced change. You can still live off the delicious and cheap street food or dine out at great restaurants. Most of our staff live in the old quarters or around Tay Ho or Truc Bach lakes either in spacious apartments or houses. Your salary goes a long way and many find it difficult to leave after they have acclimatised to Hanoi’s way of life!
