Role overview

The British Council in Vietnam is expanding and needs more academic managers to support its ambitious strategy in a country rated as one of the best in the world in which to work in EFL. We are seeking an Academic Manager to assume responsibility for leading on the successful roll out and implementation of the British Council’s new Secondary Plus product for learners aged 12–17.

This is a senior teacher level post that will allow the successful candidate to demonstrate and enhance their experience in both academic leadership and product management, working as part of a larger team in a highly successful teaching operation in a period of growth.

Your experience to date will combine excellent secondary-age teaching and course development with effective project management, quality control and change management. Your skills will include the abilities to critically evaluate customer feedback and market data, develop and define products that best meet customer needs, and coordinate a cross-country team in the communication, delivery and evaluation of new courses.

As the secondary life-stage specialist for the whole country, you will need to liaise with the Head of Adults and Upper Secondary and the Head of Young Learners (Early Years, Primary and Lower Secondary) as well as regional and global colleagues supporting the global launch process. In addition, the post-holder will need to communicate clearly and regularly with Academic Managers across country to ensure programmes are aligned to agreed strategy and standards. Furthermore, and crucially, you will need to work closely with the Marketing and Sales and Customer Management teams to ensure key staff are both consulted and informed of developments and that agreed messaging is clear, accurate and consistent.

You will teach up to eight hours per week, scheduled or as cover, and will be expected to work some evenings as well as weekends as part of the Duty Manager rota. You will line manage around six teachers, including one Secondary Plus Coordinator, and will have opportunities to participate in INSETT and teacher development activity.
