HA NOI – The 10th edition of the global video-making competition Your World, organised by the British Council, recently concluded with a successful Award Ceremony held in Ha Noi. Beating 24 teams from across the East Asia region, Cau Giay Secondary School (Ha Noi, Viet Nam) was proudly announced as the East Asia Regional Winner with their project applying artificial intelligence (AI) to improve English tutoring for children at a local SOS village. This achievement reflects the meaningful purpose of the competition in empowering young people to become future leaders who make positive contributions to their communities.

As an annual competition organised by the British Council, Your World offers a meaningful platform where students have the opportunity to strengthen their critical thinking and creativity by applying knowledge from various subjects to drive positive change within their communities. This year’s theme, Skills for Sustainability – Equipping All Youth for the Future, aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, emphasizing the importance of preparing future leaders with the skills and mindset to address global sustainability challenges.

At the global level, this year’s competition received 642 outstanding entries from over 3,210 students across 34 countries. Among them, Scoris International School from Uganda was honoured with the Global Winner Award for their initiative addressing unemployment among women. In Viet Nam, eight schools participated in this 10th edition of the competition – accounting for nearly one-third of all participating schools in the East Asia region. Notably, Cau Giay Secondary School (Viet Nam) emerged as the East Asia Regional Winner, a testament to the remarkable creativity and innovation demonstrated by Vietnamese students within the British Council’s Partner Schools network.

James Shipton, Director Viet Nam, British Council, stated:

Your World is more than a competition—it is a powerful platform that nurtures the next generation of leaders. We are proud to see students in Viet Nam and across the globe applying their knowledge with creativity and purpose, tackling real issues in their communities. This is exactly the kind of learning that shapes confident, compassionate individuals who are ready to lead change, both locally and globally.

Samantha Lea Smith, Director Exams Viet Nam, British Council and a representative of the judging panel, remarked:

The projects this year demonstrated exceptional technical ability, creativity and depth of knowledge of contemporary sustainability issues. When presented with opportunities and resources, Vietnamese young people excel and shine as responsible leaders committed to addressing social challenges which proactively impact their communities and the shape of the future.

Students aged 14 to 17 from British Council Partner schools formed teams of three to five members to create videos of up to three minutes, illustrating their approach to improving education quality and accessibility within their local communities. The competition is not only an opportunity for students to showcase their creativity and systematic thinking but also a chance for them to engage with global challenges and develop problem-solving skills.

Luu Van Thong, Principal, Cau Giay Secondary School, shared:

As a British Council Partner School, we are always eager to create international learning opportunities for our students. Participating in the Your World competition not only allows them to engage with global issues but also provides a dynamic environment to develop essential skills, creativity, and a strong sense of social responsibility in the digital age. We are proud that their journey through this competition has helped spread the positive values of Vietnamese education to the world.

Duc Khanh—representing the team from Cau Giay Secondary School – shared:

I feel truly honoured to be part of a global competition like Your World, where we had the chance to connect with and learn from international friends. The competition helped me expand my worldview and better understand how young people in other countries think and act to drive positive change. It was an unforgettable and deeply inspiring experience for all of us.

Building on that idea, Duc Khanh’s team planned to organise live workshops where students would be guided on how to use AI to practise listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English in a more engaging and proactive way. To achieve this, the team divided the tasks: some wrote the content, others tested the tools, while others designed the slides and coordinated the activities. After each workshop, the students felt that they had gained valuable hands-on experience.

Not only did the participating students acquire knowledge and experience, but representatives from the schools within the British Council Partner Schools network also expressed their satisfaction with the impact of the competition. The representative of Ban Mai School stated:

The partnership between our school and the British Council, which began in 2023, has gradually deepened and brought significant value to both our students and teachers. The Your World competition is a prime example of the success of this collaboration, providing development opportunities for students and offering our school valuable insights that help innovate and enrich practical educational activities.

The Your World competition is part of the British Council's long-term efforts to promote modern, student-centred education through a vast global network of educators who share the mission of innovation and creativity in teaching. To date, the British Council has partnered with over 2,300 schools, supported more than 100,000 teachers, and positively impacted millions of students worldwide. In Viet Nam, over the years, more and more schools and centres teaching UK secondary programmes have chosen to become British Council Partner Schools. This shows the growing trust in the quality and value that the British Council's education partnership network brings.

With practical initiatives like Your World, the British Council continues to affirm its pioneering role in fostering international connections, enhancing the quality of education, and empowering the younger generation to become dynamic, creative, and responsible global citizens.

The 11th edition of the Your World competition will open in September 2025. Visit our website https://internationalschools.britishcouncil.org/partner-schools/your-wor... for more information.
