Role overview
British Council in Vietnam is seeking an academic manager to lead on teacher induction and continuing professional development in Hanoi, providing maternity cover for a six-month period. After completion, the successful applicant would be expected to return to their previous posting, or apply for new opportunities.
This is a post at senior teacher level that will allow the successful candidate to demonstrate and enhance their experience in teacher training, working as part of a larger team in a highly successful teaching operation.
Your knowledge and skills to date will combine excellent teaching, line management and teacher training experience with effective communications and quality control. Your experience should include conducting training needs analyses and organising induction and training schedules for a diverse audience.
As the professional development lead in city, you will need to liaise with the Heads of Adult and Young Learner Courses, the Academic Manager for Professional Development in HCMC, as well as Academic Managers across the Hanoi branches, to ensure a training policy and programme that is aligned to teaching centre strategy. Our teachers, for example, are offered regular training opportunities through TYLEC, Trinity Diploma, NILE, and our in-service training programme, and the expectation is that this post will support and coordinate training across the city, as well as act as a tutor on the Trinity courses.
You will also be expected to take a lead role in developing and enhancing our onboarding and induction processes and tools, working closely with Operations and Academic Operations Managers to ensure new teaching staff are effectively informed and trained before, during and beyond their start dates.
As a model for British Council expertise in teaching and teacher development, you will also have the opportunity to represent the British Council teaching centres externally.
You will teach up to eight hours per week, scheduled or as cover, and will be expected to work some evenings as well as weekends as part of the duty manager rota. You will line manage around six teachers, including one Professional Development Coordinator.
