All our teachers are dedicated professionals who specialise in teaching English to children.

They come from all over the world and have gone through a rigorous selection process.

They also participate in our continuous professional development programme, which allows them to extend their skills and knowledge and also obtain further formal qualifications.

To be eligible to apply for a teaching position at the British Council, teachers must have:

  • a university degree (bachelor's or above)
  • a post-graduate qualification in teaching English as a foreign language recognised by the British Council
  • highly proficient English (equivalent to IELTS 8.5 /9, or CEFR C2)
  • at least two years’ prior teaching experience.

Besides, it will be useful to add that all our teachers are professionals and engaged in continuing professional development. This includes regular internal training, as well as performance management and observations. We also provide our teachers with training and support towards formal qualifications, such as Trinity TYLEC (Teaching Young Learners) and Trinity Diploma (a post-graduate diploma at Level 7 of the National Qualifications Framework).

Meet some of our teachers

Hayley Bryan

I have been a teacher for seven years. I have taught in Seoul, Hanoi, Cairo and now Ho Chi Minh City. I have Cambridge certificates in teaching English to adults (CELTA) and young learners (CELTYL) and a teaching diploma (DipTESOL). In my lessons I enjoy finding new ways to help students with their pronunciation as well as encouraging students to become more independent in their learning. In my free time I like socialising, reading and travelling.

Lily Kentmann

I have been a teacher and trainer for 14 years and I have worked extensively on assessment, including IELTS preparation, since 2007. I love helping students identify what their language goals are and how best to achieve them, and enjoying creating dynamic learning spaces that allow students to interact with contemporary issues and express their opinions with confidence, all while improve their language proficiency. In my free time, I like to spend time outdoors with my family and my dog.
